Troubleshooting Steps for Non-Reporting Units
In order to provide the most comprehensive support for troubleshooting GPS units, our Technical Support team would like for you to take a moment to perform the following steps before contacting a GPS Insight support technician.
POWER: Verify that the device has a sufficient power source, is receiving a steady supply of power, and is properly connected to the power source. In order to determine power, check the unit’s lights:
• If the lights are on, please proceed to the next task.
• If there are no lights on the unit, please check the following:
- Check vehicle fuse. Occasionally a vehicle may experience a blown fuse that will cause the power supply to be cut-off from the vehicle to the unit.
- Check the connections between the unit and the power source. Sometimes these connections may become loose due to a variety of issues. This problem can often be circumvented with a sound installation.
- Check the voltage output of the power source. Voltage requirements for our GPS product range from 12V to 13.8V. Anything under this amount would be insufficient in supplying proper power supply.
ANTENNA: Verify that the antenna is properly installed in the vehicle and has a sound/secure connection to the unit. Detailed installation procedures can be found in the Installation Guide accompanying your GPS unit.
• The antenna should be placed in a position that offers clear, unobstructed views to the skyline in order to guarantee proper communication.
• The wires connecting the antenna to the unit should never be crimped or pinched; this is to ensure proper data communication between the unit and the antenna.
• Note: Units with internal antennas may need to be repositioned.
If your GPS unit is still not reporting properly after verifying the power and all the connections are secure, please reference the lights again and contact our technical support for further troubleshooting.
LIGHTS: The support technician will not be available in person to troubleshoot the unit; therefore we ask that you note what the lights are doing so that we may better assist you in troubleshooting the unit.
• Please note the following with regards to the lights (ignition on):
- Which lights are on…
- Pattern – how many seconds pass before each light blinks…
